For years I thought garter stitch bordered on homely, that was until I swatched it in Blue Sky Alpaca’s Worsted Hand Dye. This aran yarn is so plump and round that the garter stitch texture positively pops.
Amherst is a very simple sweater and yarn shops have made it a favorite for their first sweater classes. Though it is a raglan, the pattern is worked in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed. With 50% alpaca, this aran yarn is on the heavy side and the seams help to stabilize the garment. Even with seaming, it’s a quick knit and the finishing is minimal.
The pattern is written for 7 sizes with finished bust measurements of 34 (36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46)”. With a suggested ease of about 2″ the sweater will fit anyone with a bust between 32″ and 44″.
